Flavia Maria Benato, Conservator

 

Professional Education

1987 - 1989: Three year art conservation program at Lombardy regional conservation center, Ente Nazionale A.C.L.I. Istruzione Professionale, in Botticino (Brescia), Italy. Program recognized and supported by the Istituto Centrale del Restauro (ICR) in Rome. This was a painting conservation program. A specialization was obtained in mural conservation (affresco, a secco, oil marouflauge), with complimentary studies in stone.

1989 – 1990  Postgraduate internship with conservator Bruno Zanardi on affrescos in the Duomo of Parma.

International exchange on painting conservation techniques, Limbourg Atelliers, Holland

Contemporary art conservation workshops, Milano Italy

Paper conservation workshop, Rome, Italy

Historical and Artistic studies by the City of Verona on Verona and it’s province

Professional Experience

1999 Pescadero Trust, Pebble Beach California, USA. 1000 sq. ft murals, oil on fabric with gilding and attachments. Work included cleaning, lining, filling, inpainting, varnish. Work performed under contract with FACL, Inc. directed by Scott M. Haskins of Santa Barbara, CA USA.

Since 1991, Ms. Benato has been registered with the City of Verona as a conservator of fine art. She routinely provides conservation services on murals and canvases for the Soprintendenza of Fine Art and the Soprintendenza of Architecture for the Region of Veneto, the province of Verona and other surrounding cities and regions.

While collaborating on numerous in lab and mural project from all periods with other conservators, Ms. Benato has been in private practice since 1991. Her business currently employs two technicians.

Ms. Benato works periodically with the Ministry of Culture and Science of Germany.

While a list of projects was not available, I have found Ms. Benato to be a very capable, excellent conservator with excellent skills, judgement and people skills.   Scott M. Haskins
