Scott Haskins, Project Director, Conservator

 

January 1986 to Present: Fine Art Conservation Laboratories ( FACL, Inc. ) in Santa Barbara, California. President, Director, Chief Conservator of facility which specializes in the conservation of fine art (4 employees). Extensive mural conservation experience (covering the full range of treatments) includes work for The General Services Administration (nationwide), The State of California, Hearst Castle (San Simeon CA), the cities of Los Angeles and San Francisco, The Los Angeles Times (LA), Holland America Lines (Portland, Oregon), Washington State Capitol Building, The Department of Transportation (Pennsylvania) and several private client’s estates in Santa Barbara and Beverly Hills, California.

February 1984 - January 1986 : Chief Paintings Conservator for Art Conservation Laboratories of Santa Barbara, Inc. Directed the work of this 6500 sq. ft facility (10 employees) including the work on mural projects within the Santa Barbara area (20th century marouflage and affresco).  

September 1978 - February 1984: Conservator of Fine Arts and Director of Conservation at Brigham Young University. Responsibilities included the organization of and the conservation within this new 4000 sq. ft conservation laboratory which provided fine art conservation services on a regional basis throughout the Intermountain West (4 employees). Mural conservation was a specialization of the lab which had a steady stream of projects. All phases of treatments were provided on paintings from the 19th to 20th century, most were marouflage.

October 1977 - June 1978: Internship at the Ex Monastero della Trinitá Museum. Worked on murals under Mr. Paolo Bacchin, Conservator (ICCROM, UNESCO projects director for mural conservation projects in Venice and Verona Italy, Greece  and in Bangkok Thailand). The training and formative background (prior to 1979) encompassed all phases of mural conservation under the supervision of very experienced, veteran conservators.  

October 1975 - June 1978: Three year art conservation program at Lombardy regional conservation center, Ente Nazionale A.C.L.I. Istruzione Professionale, in Botticino (Brescia), Italy. Program recognized and supported by the Istituto Centrale del Restauro (ICR) in Rome. A specialization was obtained in mural conservation (affresco, a secco, oil marouflage). 

Professional Affiliations

American Institute for Conservation (AIC), Professional Associate member (member since 1978) Participation has included talks and presentations at annual meetings. Activity also includes participation in the Paintings Specialty subgroup and in the Conservators in Private Practice subgroup for which I was Vice Chair from 1990 to 1993. I was Chairperson for the 1993-1994 year. During my three years as Vice Chair, I organized the annual meetings in Albuquerque, N.M., Buffalo, N.Y. and Denver, CO. As a professional member of AIC, I have pledged to uphold the Code of Ethics and Standards of Practice.

International Institute for Conservation (IIC), Associate member since 1978. Attendance at several meetings at international locations over the years and have participated with talks.

1984 - 85 Board of Directors, 1982 - 83 Vice President, 1983 - 84 President

Organized the annual meeting in 1983 in Oakland, CA and 1984 in Santa Barbara, CA. Participation has included talks and presentations at annual meetings.

Shroud of Turin Research Project: Consultant and Participant.

Institute of Museum Services (U.S. Gov't): grant proposal reviewer.

Santa Barbara City College, teacher since 1988.

Class entitled, "Preserving Your Treasured Family History Possessions."

 

Publications, papers given and seminars presented have been many.
